Bayern took advantage of Dortmund’s slip-up and eased past 10-man Leipzig, thanks to goals from James and Lewandowski.
Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes says his side will be highly motivated to win when they play host to RB Leipzig this weekend at the Allianz Arena.

GLASGOW — Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has been ruled out of their Champions League meeting with Celtic through injury.

Lewandowski, 29, scored in the 2-0 win over RB Leipzig on Saturday, which took Bayern top of the Bundesliga for the first time this season. However, he limped off on the stroke of half-time with a hamstring strain.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes said at his news conference at the weekend: “He complained of muscle pain and asked to go off. I do not think it is a serious injury but it has happened because he has been in permanent action over the last few weeks.

“He is constantly up against two or three players, showing great commitment and running a great deal. This is when muscle tweaks occur.”

After his substitution against Leipzig, Lewandowski said he hoped to be fit for Tuesday’s game, but after undergoing a fitness test in Munich on Monday he did not fly with the Bayern squad to the Scottish capital.

However, Bayern’s club medic, Dr. Volker Braun, told SportBild he expects the striker to be fit for the meeting with Borussia Dortmund next Saturday.

Ahead of flying toGlasgow, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told reporters at Munich airport: “If we were playing Real Madrid, he might have travelled, but the coach isn’t taking any risks, he already has the game on Saturday in the back of his mind which is very important to us.

“It’s a case of just a few days. We expect him to be back on the pitch for Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Kingsley Coman boarded the plane to Scotland after missing the weekend game due to bruising on his knee.
